Low Emission Zones

Low Emission Zones (LEZ) are typically densely populated city areas where the oldest and most polluting diesel engine vehicles are restricted from entering or charged for doing so.

The access will only be grated if these vehicles are upgraded with a diesel particulate filter (in daily speech upgrading the PM-level to “EURO IV”) or in some zones are paying a significant daily penalty.

Removal of fine particles
The Low Emission Zones are often the most efficient method for cities to reduce local air pollution problems in the affected area. Mainly removal of ultrafine particles is being pursued by the bodies administrating the Low Emission Zones.

Low Emission Zones in Europe
Each low emission zone specifies the rules and regulations for access, and it is the duty of each fleet to inform itself about the access requirements hereunder the EURO classification and options of upgrade of PM emissions to meet these requirements.
